Aransas Pass Civic Center
Client Annette Schonhoeft, Aransas Pass Civic CenterThis poster is part of an overall identity system created for the Aransas Pass Civic Center including logo, website, stationery, signage, and brochures. I took photos during the center's grand opening Mardi Gras celebration. Two high school students acting as greeters for the event made a perfect centerpiece for the collage.

San Patricio County Fairgrounds

My son Zachary attended a Sinton Kiwanas Club meeting a while back. At some point in the meeting, Annette Schonhoeft mentioned she needed someone to design a website for the San Patricio County Fairgrounds, of which she was the Executive Director. "My dad can do that," piped up Zachary. See the results at: www.sanpatriciocountyfairgrounds.com

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas
While going through some CDs of archived artwork, I came across two logos I created for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas. For several years I produced pro bono promotional graphics for their annual "Live Under the Oaks" benefit concert.

Benefit Golf Tournament Flyer
Another pro bono job for a worthy cause. The client came to me with a request to photoshop their logo onto a golf ball and one thing led to another. Read more Hannah's Hope on their website at www.hannahs-hope.com.

Shallow Sport Boats Brochure
Shallow Sport Boats, as their name suggests, specialize in extremely shallow running boats based on a unique hull design that is the basis for their corporate logo. I created the layout for the brochure for Sugarek Marketing utilizing beautiful stock photography of panoramic ocean scenes along with client-supplied existing boat photography.

R14 Custom Spurs
R14 Customs Spurs is another hometown client. Local craftsman Rocky Stautzenberger specializes in custom Roping, Cutting, and Bull Riding spur design and needed a website on which to market his unique services. In addition to being a metal crafter, I was pleasantly surprised to find Mr. Stautzenberger to be an excellent photographer - his work is featured prominently on the website. Check it out at: www.r14customspurs.com

NQL Energy Services Brochures
Client: Sugarek Marketing, NQL Energy Services Brochures
Here's a series of brochures that turned out nicely despite an extremely tight production timeline. The background "strata" was created from a much smaller cross section that I pieced together and digitally colorized. The "drill strings" are vector art created in Adobe Illustrator.

Peterson Book Cover
Robert Peterson is a friend of a friend of a friend who published this excellent book on marketing your job skills right-out-of, or while still-in college. Mr. Peterson supplied a photo reference of the young man on the cover and I flopped it into a mirror image for the basis of my cover illustration.

"Less is More" Trade Journal Ad
Client: Sugarek Marketing, NQL Energy Services
Another attempt to make an industrial product look sleek and sexy. In this case, a "mud motor" used for directional drilling in the oilfield industry. The photographer shot the motor against a white background under a blue filter, hence the nice blue highlights. Wrench marks on the motor were "photoshopped" out as a final touch.

Frio Pecan Farm Website
Client Joe Sugarek, Sugarek Marketing - Johnny Seibert, Frio Pecan Farm
This website went live in May. The Frio Pecan Farm is a working Pecan Farm and corporate retreat. I met the owner, Johnny Seibert, while attending my nephew's wedding. Mr. Seibert gave Cathi and I a tour of the facilities and I took the opportunity to take some photos, some of which were incorporated into the new website. Visit the site at www.friopecanfarm.com.

Baytek International Brochure
Client: Sugarek Marketing - Baytek
Initial comps on this project included a shot of the earth with some nice low level clouds curving across the horizon. Upon closer inspection the clouds turned out to be forest fires burning in South America - not exactly an image with which your average corporation wants to be identified. We briefly considered using it anyway (most people would have thought they were just clouds), but with NASA virtually next door to the company, we didn't want to take a chance on our client getting razzed by the neighbors.

Hannah's Hope Logo
Client: Marsha & Tommy Coulter, Hannah's Hope.
Every once in a while you come across a project for which you wouldn't think about accepting payment. Hannah's Hope is a local organization founded by Marsha & Tommy Coulter dedicated to the educational needs of children born with autism. Marsha Rogers-Coulter is a fellow Skidmore-Tynan High School graduate whose daughter Hannah is the namesake of the non-profit school for autistic children.

Client: Joe Sugarek, Sugarek Marketing - Mannings USA
I have no idea what this thing is but isn't that a nice tight line drawing?
Skidmore Water Supply Corporation Website
Client: Skidmore Water Supply Corporation
Finally, a hometown client! When the Skidmore Water Supply Corporation asked me to design a website, I grabbed my digital camera and paid a visit to their pumping station. Being the frustrated photographer that I am, I enjoyed taking artsy shots of the industrial equipment scattered about the site. Visit the SWSC website at: www.skidmorewatersupply.com

Strata Pocket Folder & Inserts
Client: Joe Sugarek, Sugarek Marketing - Allis Chalmers
Directional drilling isn't a particularly exciting subject matter, but I'm really happy with the solution we came up with for Strata Directional Technologies.

Reinventing Invention Book Cover
Client: Paul Baffes & George Dempsey, Reinventing Invention
My high school classmate David DuBose introduced me to Paul Baffes. Paul was running a company called "Intellilearn" at the time and I created a logo and some web graphics for the company. His latest project was to design a cover for a book he co-authored with Dr. George Dempsey.

Jagadillo T-Shirt
Client: Glenn Chase, Capitol Macintosh User Group
I was heavily involved in CapMac while living back in Austin and one of the guys tracked me down in Skidville looking for another T-Shirt design (my third for the group). Apple had just announced their new System X, codenamed Panther, and they were looking for an updated version of my old "mugadillo" logo for the new shirt. The original logo was an armadillo curled up in the shape of the Apple logo. After googling a few panther images off the web, I came up with the "jagadillo" graphic above. The T-Shirts were printed and as near as I can tell, were a big hit with the group. CapMac president Glenn Chase writes "Your t-shirt design received universal acclaim and we sold 27 of them at our Spring Cleaning Sale on Saturday!"

Lovejoys Wickedly Good Beer T-Shirt
Client: Lovejoys Tap Room & Brewery
When my favorite Austin brewpub announced a T-Shirt design contest, I couldn't help but throw in my own contribution. The idea for this T-Shirt design was born on a napkin in the aforementioned pub. The proprietor was concerned that the brewers of "Pete's Wicked Ale" might not approve, but in the end, the design was okay'd.

KLBJ Logo
Client: Klassen Graphic Designs - KLBJ 93.7 FM "Austin's Rock"
This was one my first relatively high profile logo designs. I was only a few years out of college (early 1990s), working for Allison Klassen of Klassen Graphic Designs, when I had the opportunity to redesign the classic KLBJ logo. The old logo had been around for decades and the guys at the radio station said they liked the new design because it reminded them of the Led Zeppelin album covers.
